Knowledge
The DQP outlines two major categories where students have the opportunity demonstrate knowledge. Broad and integrative knowledge asks students to demonstrate broad knowledge across multiple disciplines or fields of study. Students should be able to construct bridges between various disciplines, such as the sciences, humanities, and art, to see how knowledge and ideas cross, intersect, and ultimately influence each other. Society was built and evolved on the idea that knowledge does not occur in a silo, but rather builds and flows across disciplines and ways of understanding our world.
Students should also be able to demonstrate specialized knowledge as they travel through their academic career. Specialized knowledge and proficiencies will vary by field of study, but will ultimately be determined by the experts in that field. Tuning USA provides a broader conversation on how departments can align learning outcomes, competencies, and proficiencies from the associate, bachelors, and graduate level.
